Computer Forensics Criminal Cases

E-mail Print PDF

We assist in the investigation of crimes involving computers and the Internet.  Sometimes we are retained as computer experts to investigate computer intrusions and other violations.

Sometimes we apply our computer forensics expertise to assist attorneys and individuals accused of a crime.  Sometimes the government will provide the defense attorney with copies of "computer forensics reports."  The problem with these is that they frequently put the defense attorney in a position where they receive a report that they don't quite understand and that does not contain the basics necessary to build a case.  For example, in a case accusing an individual of soliciting a minor in a chat room, the defense will receive paper chat logs, usually created in MS-Word.  Similarly, in pornography cases, the defense will only see the pictures in question.
Forensic computer data is critical in computer cases.  Where the evidence came from and its internal properties are at least as important as the evidence itself.  We frequently assist defense attorneys in analyzing computer evidence and provide our candid opinion as to whether the prosecution can sustain its burden of proof.

We can provide computer forensics assistance to attorneys representing individuals accused of various computer crimes, including:
